Gastrodia Complex™ is based on a time-tested Chinese herbal formula that supports circulation and maintains healthy blood pressure. In TCM, it clears heat, calms Liver yang and extinguishes Liver wind, and tonifies Liver and Kidney yin.
The pattern this fits
This is the formula for Liver yang rising. The presentation is fairly consistent: headache at the temples or behind the eyes, dizziness, tinnitus, a red face, irritability with a short fuse, and often a wiry pulse. Symptoms tend to be worse with stress, worse in the afternoon, and worse after alcohol.
Underneath the yang rising there is usually Liver and Kidney yin deficiency, which is why this formula does two jobs at once. Gou Teng and Tian Ma settle what is rising. Gou Qi Zi, Shan Zhu Yu and Sheng Di Huang rebuild what is depleted underneath. Treating only the rising heat without the deficiency is why symptoms come back.
It is built on Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin, with Dan Shen added to move blood and the shell medicinals Shi Jue Ming and Zhen Zhu Mu to anchor yang more firmly than the base formula does.
Before you start
- Dan Shen interacts with anticoagulants. It potentiates warfarin and other blood thinners meaningfully. If you take one, this formula needs practitioner oversight and coordination with your prescriber, not self-direction.
- If you take antihypertensive medication, this is not a replacement and it should not be layered on without monitoring. Keep taking your prescription and keep measuring.
- Not for the pale, cold, exhausted presentation. That is deficiency without the rising heat, and a formula this cooling will make it worse.
- Not for use during pregnancy.
Headache with dizziness has a long differential. If yours came on suddenly, is the worst you have had, or arrives with visual or neurological changes, that needs urgent assessment rather than herbs.
