RUN JI GAO - Nourishing Ointment

Also known as: Run Ji Gao, Nourishing Ointment.

Four ingredients. Jojoba, beeswax, Dang Gui and Zi Cao. That is the entire formula.

It is the simplest thing Dermatology M makes and one of the most useful. No water, no preservative, nothing to react to beyond the four things on the label. For skin that has cracked from dryness rather than from heat.

What's doing the work

• Dang Gui (Angelica sinensis) nourishes and invigorates blood. The classical choice for skin that has stopped repairing itself.
• Zi Cao (Arnebia euchroma, redroot gromwell) cools blood and resolves toxin, and gives the ointment its pink cast.
• Jojoba seed oil and beeswax, which is all the base it needs.

How to use

Apply 3 to 5 times a day. On hands or feet, apply thickly at night and cover with cotton gloves or socks.

Pairs well with

Layers over any of the cooling creams once they have absorbed, to offset their drying effect.

Good to know

• 50ml (1.69 fl oz / 48 g) or 200ml.
• Not vegan. Contains beeswax.
• The supplier label still carries a sesame allergy warning, but sesame is not in the current ingredient list. The formula appears to have moved from a sesame base to jojoba and the warning text has not caught up. If you have a sesame allergy, read the jar you receive.
• The Zi Cao pigment can mark light fabric.
• Patch test first. For external use only. Keep out of reach of children.
