Fertility is the area where I am least comfortable with anyone self-selecting a formula, and I would rather say so plainly than sell you something.
Chinese medicine treats the cycle in phases, and the formula that supports the follicular phase is not the one for the luteal phase. Several formulas in this category are contraindicated once conception has occurred, which means timing matters in a way it does not elsewhere. If you are also in an IVF or IUI cycle, some herbs interact with the medications involved and your reproductive endocrinologist needs to know what you are taking.
None of that is a reason to avoid herbs. It is a reason to have someone tracking it with you.
What I look at first
Before any formula, I want the basics ruled in or out, because several of them are common, correctable, and produce fertility problems that no herb will fix.
Thyroid. Subclinical hypothyroidism affects ovulation and early pregnancy, and a TSH alone will not catch it. The full panel is in this piece.
Ferritin. Low iron affects ovulation and is very common in women with heavy cycles.
Fasting insulin. Insulin resistance is central to PCOS and often present well before glucose looks abnormal. I go through why in this post.

Male factor accounts for roughly half of cases and is the most commonly skipped step. A semen analysis is inexpensive and answers a question that months of treating one partner will not.
How I think about the cycle
Blood builds the lining in the first half, yang warms and holds in the second. Patterns of Blood deficiency, Kidney yang deficiency, Liver qi stagnation and Blood stasis each show up differently in cycle length, flow, temperature pattern and mid-cycle signs. That is what a consultation sorts out, and it is why the same diagnosis gets different formulas.
